Fitness Australia Limited :: GENERAL MANAGER – OPERATIONS
Part of the three-person executive team that was the architect of the change management plan which merged nine (9) separate Associations to form Fitness Australia Limited. Since the merger we have achieved the following:
- Have exceeded all key result area targets every year including over 95% retention of a great team of professional staff.
- 100% Revenue growth since 2008.
- Membership & registration growth over 30% since 2008.
- Successful brand strategy resulting in significant increase in recognition as national peak body.
- Funding recognition by four (4) State Governments and the Federal Dept of Health and Ageing.
- Director of a cool high performance team of professional staff in key functional areas including finance, IT, marketing, communications, relationship management and customer service
April 2006 – June 2008
Fitness New South Wales Inc :: EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Delivered the organisation’s three year Business Plan and Budget which formed the basis for key achievements including:
- An increase of up to 85% retention of business members in two years
- 15% Increase in new membership across all categories
- Administrative responsibility for two subsidiaries including Fitness Tasmania Inc
- Exceeded projected sponsor and advertising interest and revenue

July 2005 – March 2006
Australian Canoeing Inc :: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
When completing due diligence immediately after my appointment I discovered a previously unknown $500k liability leaving the organisation close to insolvency with six (6) FTE staff and contracts to deliver two world championship events within a three month period.
- Successfully gained approval for a major organisational and financial restructure managing staff and program redundancies to accommodate a new financial plan;
- Completed successful negotiations with Australian Government to implement an organisational rescue package including trading terms; and successfully conduct two 2005 World Championship Canoeing events.
- My own redundancy was a component of my financial recovery plan for the organisation hence the short tenure.

Metropolitan Caloundra Surf Life Saving Club Inc (Queensland) :: EXECUTIVE OFFICER
First professional executive staff member employed to embed a new era of professional management into a previously volunteer only organisation. My legacy is an ongoing professional organisation with a lasting brand and high level of community engagement with systems that continue to sustain the same staff & an effective organisational capacity. Relocation to Sydney for family reasons resulted in resignation from this contract in favour of the Australian Canoeing contract on offer.
October 2001- September 2004
Surf Life Saving Northern Region Inc (New Zealand) :: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Recruited to lead New Zealand’s largest lifeguarding and surf sport organisation covering the largest geographic area, largest membership and largest resource-base from Raglan Beach in the south to Cape Reinga in the north.
- 19% increase in revenue in first 12 months.
- Delivered fundraising strategies achieving 25% above budgeted targets.
- Delivered three year sponsorship agreements with two major sponsors plus 100% renewal of existing sponsorships at increased cash commitments.
- 20% increase in safety service coverage to the New Zealand community.
